Hello, my name is Massiel. I’m a primary school teacher from the Dominican Republic. I have a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, living now in NYC with my husband and completing the second year of my master’s degree, which is focused on learning strategies for teachers.
I’ve been working in and out of the classroom for 9 years. In Santo Domingo, I was a teacher at a bilingual school, where I worked with wonderful teachers and human beings who were passionate about their jobs and were always learning from their experiences. That opportunity marked my life and teaching style in a beautiful way. Out of the classroom, I’ve had the opportunity to work with kids from low-income families, using alternative and creative strategies. While in Santo Domingo, I also worked as a co-writer with a publishing house called SM Editorial. Part of my mission was to contribute with teaching ideas for their 2nd, 3rd and 5th grade Social Studies books. All these opportunities have built the foundation for this website.
I’m currently in the process of completing my Master’s Degree and getting certifications for a few teaching methods that really interest me. In the meantime, I’m happy to help friends and colleagues with learning strategies for their children and students, focusing on their age. I don’t have kids yet, but I have a beautiful Havanese dog that I love to train in my free time.
Educcorner first started when I created an Instagram account, to share learning ideas with my friends who are parents and/or teachers. The purpose was to collect helpful ideas that can work on a daily basis, using essential materials and following easy instructions. Suddenly, the account started getting the attention of more and more followers from different countries. Most of them I haven’t met, but it’s been a joy to find people from all over who are just as passionate about learning strategies for kids and sharing great ideas.
Now that Educ Corner is growing, it’s time to move to a better platform, where I can explain in detail the ideas that I share and also complete my Master’s portfolio with more elaborate explanations.
For this website I’ve had 3 great collaborators. First and foremost God, who is always leading my path. Secondly, my husband who, from day one has been encouraging me to write and share all my ideas with the world; he’s been my daily support and believes in the future of education as well. Also, my dear friend Chris, who’s a web developer, graphic designer and computer animator and who has all those talents I don’t have. Without his help, this project wouldn’t be a reality. He is eager to put his skilled technological abilities for the betterment of education.
I want to clarify that I’m not an expert. I’m a learner, passionate about education and I am always questioning and wondering, researching and evaluating methods that I’d like to apply. I believe that education is something that grows all the time and should move towards the essence of learning and a better development for children.
